Elizabeth Y. Gokongwei

Mrs. Elizabeth Y. Gokongwei shares her husband John Gokongwei’s belief that education is critical in making life better for Filipinos.

Her passion is to provide educational opportunities to underprivileged youth, and her seat on the Gokongwei Brothers Foundation (GBF) Board of Trustees allows her to do just that. One of her pet projects, which was launched in 2012, is the awarding of high school scholarships at the St. Stephen’s High School to promising students. With this, Mrs. Gokongwei hopes to help uphold the school’s mission, which is to provide quality education based on Christian principles.

In 2014, Mrs. Gokongwei published the coffee table book “My Angkong’s Noodles”, which documents the culinary heritage of Chinese Filipinos. Mrs. Gokongwei dedicated this compilation of heirloom recipes “to our immigrant grandmothers and great-grandmothers who had to work daily at the stove.” Mrs. Gokongwei hopes that the heirloom recipes featured in the book will not merely stay within its pages but be cooked by generations in the future and bring families closer together. All profits from the sales of “My Angkong’s Noodles” went to GBF’s scholarships and educational endowments.
