Since 2018, GBF has worked alongside DepEd to strengthen NSTF’s mission of promoting scientific excellence and innovation among Filipino youth. Through the years, the foundation has expanded its support through initiatives such as short science documentaries on winning projects, sponsorship of digital platforms during the pandemic, participation support in global competitions like the International Science and Engineering Fair, and the provision of four-year STEM college scholarships under the GBF Young Scientist Awards (YSA). This year, eight outstanding student projects from across the country were recognized and awarded scholarships.

“Innovation begins with curiosity and the courage to keep going despite challenges,” Grace Colet, Executive Director of GBF,  shared in her opening message to the delegates, drawing inspiration from the legacy of John Gokongwei Jr. “The ideas these young scientists are developing today have the potential to create meaningful solutions for their communities and help shape the future of our country.”

Annually, GBF awards a college scholarship to the selected students of the  Best 8 projects of NSTF including cash tokens and medals.  The GBF YSA scholarship is designed to help encourage these students to continue their pursuit of excellence in STEM.  This year’s winners include students from Quezon City Science High School NCR, Alaminos City National High School – Region I, Lal-lo National High School – Region II , Angeles City Science High School – Region III, Bansud National High School – MIMAROPA (Region IV-B),  Sumaliring High School – Negros Island Region, Labangal National High School – Region XII, , and Baybay City Senior High School – Region VIII.

To commemorate NSTF’s 20th run, GBF also shared the short science documentaries it produced from the previous NSTF winners.  It re-posted the videos on the GBF and DepEd Facebook pages under the hashtag #StudentsforScience, to raise awareness on science-based community solutions driven by young student scientists.

Through its continued partnership with DepEd, GBF remains committed to inspiring and empowering the next generation of Filipino scientists and innovators—supporting ideas that have the potential to create meaningful impact for communities and the nation.
