GBF STEM Collab Webinar Strengthens Math Remediation Strategies for Teachers

To support teachers in addressing foundational numeracy gaps, Gokongwei Brothers Foundation’s STEM Collab, in partnership with the Department of Education’s National Educators Academy of the Philippines, hosted the ARAL Series: Strengthening Math Remediation Strategies on May 20, 21, and 22, 2026 via MS Teams.

GBF STEM Collab Webinar Strengthens Math Remediation Strategies for Teachers

The three-day webinar brought together educators across the Philippines for a focused learning experience on Math remediation strategies for Key Stage 1 learners.

The series reached a peak live audience of more than 53,000 viewers, reflecting the strong need for practical, research-based support in teaching foundational Mathematics.

Topics included developing number sense through the Concrete Pictorial Abstract (CPA) approach and applying this method to teach the four basic Math operations.

Experts also shared strategies for teaching number sense through quantity, subitizing, and counting relations.

The series highlighted the role of executive function in Mathematics learning and the importance of building learners’ confidence.

A key message of the webinar was that math remediation becomes more effective when teachers are equipped with practical, learner-centered tools.

Through approaches like CPA, educators can help make Mathematics easier to understand for young learners, especially those who need additional support in building foundational skills.

As Teacher Red Amparo reflected, when learners continue to struggle with Math, it may be a sign that teachers need to try new approaches. “By using CPA, executive functioning prompts, and growth mindset practices, we can help more children learn,” she shared.

GBF Executive Director Grace Colet also shared the importance of strengthening Math foundations in helping learners see new possibilities for themselves. “A strong foundation in Mathematics opens doors for our learners,” she said.

Through initiatives like the ARAL Series, GBF STEM Collab continues to support educators with relevant professional development opportunities that strengthen teaching practice and learner outcomes.

By helping teachers build both competence and confidence in remediation, GBF contributes to a stronger foundation for Filipino learners, one Math lesson at a time.

Teachers who want to continue learning may join the GBF STEM Collab Community to get updates on upcoming learning sessions, including CPD-accredited webinars, teacher development opportunities, and free resources for STEM educators.
