GBF Young Scientist Award Scholarship for Excellence

YSA is a full STEM college scholarship granted to the top winners of Philippine-based STEM competitions. For the past years, GBF has partnered with the Department of Education for its annual National Science and Technology Fair (NSTF) and the Department of Science and Technology - Science Education Institute for its regular imake.wemake:create.innovate.collaborate.

GBF Young Scientist Award Scholarship for Excellence

Overview

The Gokongwei Brothers Foundation Young Scientist Award (GBF YSA) is conferred upon high school and college students who demonstrate global competence through their achievement in highly-competitive and reputable STEM competitions. This award is part of GBF’s goal of encouraging more students to have an interest in STEM and empowering them to become STEM champions.

Eligibility Requirements

 In order to avail of the scholarship, the applicant must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Must be a recipient of the GBF YSA
  • Must enroll or be enrolled in a STEM undergraduate course identified by the Philippine government through the Department of Science and Technology as priority field of study in STEM during the first year of availment of scholarship
  • Must enroll or be enrolled in a Philippine university recognized by the Commission on Higher Education as a Center of Excellence (COE) or Center of Development (COD) for desired course, or an international university with equal or better ranking than a Philippine university with COE or COD status in terms of teaching desired STEM course
  • For those in high school during conferment of the GBF YSA, must avail the scholarship immediately after graduation from Grade 12. For those in college during conferment of the GBF YSA, must avail the scholarship in the first term of the immediately succeeding academic year 

Benefits

  • Fixed annual financial grant of Php 85,000 to subsidize tuition and other fees (Subject to terms and conditions of scholarship agreement)
  • Access to scholar development programs (example: leadership camp, bootcamps)
  • Internship opportunity in the Gokongwei Group (optional) 

Availment Process

  • GBF shall send a conditional scholarship offer to recipients of the GBF YSA.
  • GBF YSA recipients interested to avail of the scholarship shall be required to fill out and submit a data sheet and supporting documents (e.g. certificate of university registration) to ensure that they meet the scholarship eligibility requirements.
  • GBF shall evaluate the data sheet and supporting documents submitted by the GBF YSA recipient.
  • GBF shall send a final scholarship offer and scholarship agreement to GBF YSA recipients who are qualified to avail of the scholarship.
